High torque, low clearance
The CME-55LCX comes with more horsepower, more spindle torque, and low clearance capability. At nearly 12,000 ft/lbs (16,202 Nm), the CME-55LCX approaches the power of a high torque CME-75 drill. And when overhead space is limited, you can easily change over to low clearance mode. Low clearance sheaves permit full use of hoist lines, you still have the full 72 inch (183 cm) feed stroke, and a low clearance lifting cylinder allows for normal automatic hammer operation.
Unique feed and retract design
The unique design of the CME-55LCX feed system eliminates the hydraulic cylinder piston rods that normally extend above the drill frame. Pulldown pressure rating is 27,615 pounds (12,526 kg). Retract pressure is rated at 19,750 pounds (8,958 kg). The fast retract speed of up to 95 ft/min (29 m/min) means more production. The split slide bushings are easily replaced after normal wear intervals, and the standard upright gives you the clearance to drill with up to 10-1/4 inch hollow augers.
Quick disconnect mast
The quick disconnect mast can be secured in its storage rack and removed from the drill by simply sliding out with the hydraulic in/out slide base control. “Quick-cabling” sheaves allow you to easily move the hoist lines from the mast sheaves to the low clearance sheaves provided above the drill frame.
Dependable Cummins power
The CME-55LCX is powered by a 130 horsepower (97 kw) Cummins QSF 3.8 turbocharged diesel engine meeting tier-4 final emissions standards. Cold weather starting aid and engine protection shutdown systems are included.
Patented Spindle Brake stops rotation in an instant
Our emergency Spindle Brake can stop rotation in less than a revolution. The system is activated by two conveniently located push button switches as well as strategically located multi-directional wobble switches.
CME-55T trailer mounted
The CME-55T trailer is designed specifically for CME-55 drills which means the best possible weight distribution and use of available space. Four tool boxes provide plenty of storage. Tool boxes are mounted forward to help distribute the weight evenly on the trailer. Drill rod and auger rack are mounted over the fenders on both sides of the CME-55T trailer.
Leveling system
The CME-55T trailer is equipped with three hydraulic leveling jacks. One jack is mounted in front of the drill and one at each rear corner of the trailer. The 36-stroke jack cylinders make it easy to level the rig regardless of the site conditions.

55LCX Optional Equipment
Automatic SPT hammer
The CME-140 pound (63.5 kg) automatic hammer gives you extremely consistent and accurate Standard Penetration Test results, meeting all ASTM-D-1586 requirements. There are no ropes or cables to impede the free fall of the weight. The hammer swings from stored position to on-hole position. Since raising and lowering is done hydraulically, set up is quick and almost effortless. For maximum safety, all moving parts are enclosed, including the impact area between the weight and the anvil.
Hydraulic rod holder and breakout wrench
The hydraulic rod holder and breakout system makes your job quicker and safer. It eliminates the need for a pipe wrench and a cheater bar to break tight connections. It’s also perfect for suspending tools in the hole while adding or pulling rods. The system not only pivots from on-hole to off-hole positions, but also hydraulically moves in and out to quickly line up with the tool string.
Slide bases make the job easier and quicker
Slide base options are available for both in-out and sideways movement of the drill on the platform. Aligning the augers or rods when making connections is easy, or if the bit drifts off at an angle when starting a hole, you can quickly straighten it to a vertical position. Since the upright and optional mast are mounted directly to the drill frame, they move with the drill when the slide base is used.
Cone Penetrometer Testing (CPT)
CPT controls allow you to easily switch from typical geotechnical drilling and sampling procedures to pushing a cone. A dedicated hydraulic circuit including detented CPT control lever, hydraulic down feed pressure and CPT feed rate controls provide precise pressure and penetration adjustments required to meet ASTM standards. A separate CPT system hydraulic pressure gauge is provided as well. Anchor points are installed below the drill feed frame so that maximum available pressure can be applied to the CPT tools. A 12-volt power source can be provided at the drill control panel to accommodate electronic devices associated with CPT procedures. Mounting for depth transducers or other related equipment can also be provided.
