A towable classic
CME-55 Trailer Mounted DrillThe first CME-55 drill was produced in 1963. It was an immediate success and continues its popularity today. The trailer mounted version of this classic offers the same power and durability in a portable configuration. The CME-55T trailer is designed specifically for the CME-55 drill which means best possible weight distribution and use of available space.
Hydraulic feed system
The hydraulic feed and retract system provides 28,275 pounds (12,826 kg) of retract force and 18,650 pounds (8,460 kg) of down pressure. The 72 inch (183 cm) feed stroke is provided by twin hydraulic cylinders mounted in line with the drill spindle for precise control of force on the drilling tools. The split feed slide bushings are easily replaced after normal wear intervals, and the standard upright gives you the clearance to drill with up to 10-1/4 inch inside diameter hollow stem augers.
Mechanical rotary drive
Rugged mechanical standard rotary drive provides 7,780 foot pounds (10,548 Nm) of torque and rotary speeds of up to 800 rpm. Other rotation and torque combinations are available, including a high-torque rotary drive that gives you up to 9,425 foot pounds (12,778 Nm) of torque and rotary speeds of up to 665 rpm. The five speed transmission is connected to the drill engine through a heavy-duty 13 inch clutch. With five forward gears and one reverse, there is a rotation speed and torque combination for just about any situation. The mechanical drive system also gives you a better feel for drilling conditions down the hole. It allows you to sense the need for changes in feed pressure and rotational torque.
Patented Spindle Brake stops rotation in an instant
Our emergency Spindle Brake can stop rotation in less than a revolution. The system is activated by two conveniently located push button switches as well as strategically located multi-directional wobble switches.
Control logic — the key to driller productivity
CME-55 Trailer Mounted Drill Rotary DriveAll drilling and set-up controls are logically arranged on the control panel located at the drillers’ station. The most commonly used functions, such as the feed, hydraulic hoist, and sliding base levers are staggered for easier identification and operation. Also a lock out position for the clutch lever to prevent accidental engagement.
Tool storage
Four tool boxes provide plenty of storage. Tool boxes are mounted forward to help distribute the weight evenly on the trailer. Drill rod and auger rack are mounted over the fenders on both sides of the CME-55T trailer.
Leveling system
The CME-55T trailer is equipped with three hydraulic leveling jacks. Two jacks are mounted at the rear and a third is at the front. The 36-stroke jack cylinders make it easy to level the rig regardless of the site conditions.

Optional Equipment
Automatic SPT hammer
CME-55 Trailer Mounted Drill with Hydraulic HammerThe CME-140 pound (63.5 kg) automatic hammer system provides extremely consistent and accurate Standard Penetration Test results, meeting all ASTM-D-1586 requirements. There are no ropes or cables to impede the free fall of the weight. The hammer swings from stored position to on-hole position. Since raising and lowering is done hydraulically, set up is quick and almost effortless. For maximum safety, all moving parts are enclosed, including the impact area between the weight and the anvil. Other hammer systems available including 170 pound (77 kg), 300 pound (136 kg), and 340 pound (154 kg).
Quick mast disconnect
This feature allows you to quickly disconnect the mast when working inside buildings, underneath bridges or in other low overhead drilling locations. Since the mast is completely separated from the upright, it doesn’t interfere with other drill functions such as the in-out slide base. With the mast in the horizontal position, you simply clamp it to its storage rack and extend the drills in-out slide base. This pulls the sockets on the upright drill frame away from the large tapered pins on the mast.
Angle drilling system for special applications
This unique system allows you to drill holes at various angles between horizontal and vertical. It is especially effective for drilling under ponds, storage tanks or other structures. When used with our patented Continuous Sample Tube System, you can even take soil samples while drilling angle holes. The angle drilling system will also allow you to drill vertically with the rig positioned on an uphill slope. That can eliminate the time consuming job of leveling the rig. Since the kelly drive is directly connected to the right angle drive box, you can raise and lower the mast with the drivetrain already connected and ready to go.
Hydraulic rod holder and breakout wrench
CME-55 Trailer Mounted Drill OptionsThe hydraulic rod holder makes your job quicker and safer. It not only pivots from on-hole to off-hole positions, but also hydraulically moves in and out. For efficient operation, the breakout wrench is mounted at the pivot point of the rod holder arm. Systems available up to 6-5/8 inch (16.8 cm) capacity.
Cone Penetrometer Testing (CPT)
CPT controls allow you to easily switch from typical geotechnical drilling and sampling procedures to pushing a cone. A dedicated hydraulic circuit including detented CPT control lever, hydraulic down feed pressure and CPT feed rate controls provide precise pressure and penetration adjustments required to meet ASTM standards. A separate CPT system hydraulic pressure gauge is provided as well. Anchor points are installed below the drill feed frame so that maximum available pressure can be applied to the CPT tools. A 12-volt power source can be provided at the drill control panel to accommodate electronic devices associated with CPT procedures. Mounting for depth transducers or other related equipment can also be provided.
