Special skid drill applications
CME-45C Skid Mounted DrillThe CME-45C mounted on our steel skid frame is commonly used for drilling on barges, mountainsides and other unique situations. It is a self-contained skid unit and available with all commonly requested options can be supplied including slide bases, water pump, hoists and CME automatic SPT hammer system.
Cummins diesel power
The CME-45C skid rig is powered by a Cummins QSF 2.8L 171 cubic inch 65 horsepower (non-DEF) diesel engine which meets US E.P.A. standards for tier-4 final level emissions.
Hydraulic feed and retract system provides 19,600 pounds (8,891 kg) of retract force and 13,650 pounds (6,192 kg) of down pressure
The twin 68 inch (173 cm) stroke hydraulic feed cylinders are mounted in line with the rotary drive coupling applying direct force to the drilling tools.
Rugged mechanical rotary drive with up to 4,858 foot pounds (6,587 Nm) of torque
Several torque and rotation speed combinations are available. The four speed transmission is connected to the drill engine through a heavy-duty clutch. With four forward gears and one reverse, there’s a rotation speed and torque combination available for just about any situation. The mechanical rotary drive also gives you a good feel for changes in soil and drilling conditions down the hole. It allows you to sense the need to adjust feed pressure and rotational torque.
Permanently coupled drive
The mechanical drive line of the CME-45C is always connected regardless of the position of the mast which makes it quick and easy to set up for vertical borings on a slope. Telescoping support, auger and rod guides are available for angle drilling situations.
Patented spindle brake stops rotation in an instant
Our emergency spindle brake can stop rotation in less than a revolution. This system is activated by two conveniently located push button switches, as well as by strategically located multi-directional wobble switches.

45C Optional Equipment
Skid winch
A 12,000 pound capacity winch is mounted on the front of the steel skid for the CME-45C rig. The front winch is used to maneuver the drill to the boring site. A two-speed hydraulic motor provides winch line speed of up to 40 feet per minute for quick spooling.
Automatic SPT hammer
Our 140 pound (63.5 kg) automatic hammer gives you extremely consistent and accurate Standard Penetration Test results, meeting all ASTM-D-1586 requirements. Thats because there are no ropes or cables to impede the free fall of the weight. The hammer swings from stored position to on-hole position. Since raising and lowering is done hydraulically, set up is quick and almost effortless. For maximum safety, all moving parts are enclosed, including the impact area between the weight and the anvil. A 340/140 pound (154/63.5 kg) hammer is also available.
Slide bases make the job easier and quicker
Slide base options are available in both in-out and sideways movement of the drill on the platform. A 15 inch (38.1 cm) in-out movement allows you to quickly move the drill on and off the borehole and align the sheaves for lifting tools with the cathead or any of the hoists. A 8 inch (20.3 cm) sideways movement gives you even more versatility. Aligning augers or rods when making connections is easy. If the bit drifts off at an angle when you start a hole, you can quickly straighten it to a vertical position. Since the upright and optional mast are mounted directly to the drill frame, they move with the drill when the slide base is used. That means you can drill in any position within a 170 square inch (1097 cm²) area without moving the carrier. If you have ever tried to line up your rig on an existing bore hole, you’ve probably already recognized another benefit of the slide base.
Angle drilling system for special applications
This unique system allows you to drill holes at various angles between horizontal and vertical, and allows for vertical borings on a slope. It is especially effective for drilling under ponds, storage tanks or other structures. When used with our patented Continuous Sample Tube System, you can even take soil samples while drilling angle holes.
Cone Penetrometer Testing (CPT)
CPT controls allow you to easily switch from typical geotechnical drilling and sampling procedures to pushing a cone. A dedicated hydraulic circuit including detented CPT control lever, hydraulic down feed pressure and CPT feed rate controls provide precise pressure and penetration adjustments required to meet ASTM standards. A separate CPT system hydraulic pressure gauge is provided as well. Anchor points are installed below the drill feed frame so that maximum available pressure can be applied to the CPT tools. A 12-volt power source can be provided at the drill control panel to accommodate electronic devices associated with CPT procedures. Mounting for depth transducers or other related equipment can also be provided.
